On July 26th 2008 dignitaries, historians, and members of the community gathered in
Karnes City, Texas to pay tribute and honor one of our most notable Granadero members.
Thanks to the Texas Connection to the American Revolution Association (TCARA) for
sponsoring the event.

The Honorable Judge Robert H. Thonhoff was honored with a living memorial, a 12 ft. tall
Live Oak tree planted on the grounds of the Karnes County courthouse, where he served
as County Judge for several years.  A plaque by the tree describes Judge Thonhoff as a
“Savior of Texan and American History.”   This is an apt description of what he
accomplished with his research, books, lectures and speeches for over 25 years.   His work
showed that Spain’s assistance with treasure, military aid and sacrifice had gone from the
halls of the Palacio Real in Madrid to the American colonists, as well as directly from his
Spanish subjects in the New World, and that it had been vital to the outcome of the
revolution.  His work also revealed that Texas longhorns had fed Bernardo de Gálvez’s
army, and thus gave Texas “a connection” to the American Revolution.”

So today I honor you as a friend, Mr. Thonhoff, and for the great inspiration you have been
in my life. You taught me to carry-on, to care for the history of our fathers, and to preserve
it for the generations that will follow.   And thank you for your "Yo Solo" attitude in
continuing this great undertaking during your life.

¡Viva Gálvez!
